Learning to work with Layer Mode on Procreate

Most of my design starts as a painting. It's a lot slower, but I still enjoy playing with art supply. After scanning the original painting, I bring it into Procreate. I usually start off by clicking on different layer modes to see the possibility. After alot of clicking, this version was the most interesting.

I thought I better write it down, cause I definitely wont remember the steps involved to recreate this again.

The bottom layer is soft teal on blue, I clicked on SUBTRACT mode...

the soft teal turns into this lovely deep shade of blue....

I place this oriental blue clouds on top of the bottom layer...I then click on DIVIDE...

which is how I got this gorgeous magenta & white sky.

If the blue clouds did not reveal itself to me, I probably won't finish it off as a landscape.

From Summer to Mermaid

Mysterious nature of inspiration with a dose of mindfulness! Been working on a Summer Collection with seaside cottage, sky & water. 

Thought I should include some nautical elements from the beach. Tossed around some seashells onto a layer of blue texture watercolor.

 The right side of this border seem to be a little off balance...

 The idea of adding a mermaid to the border came to me while I was biking. I have to dash back to my studio before my inspiration swims off!

FANTASY WEDDING COLLECTION

This SAVE THE DATE greeting card started with this fairy flying thru the evening sky(from my previous post)…with the magic of photoshop, I layer the fairy over this close up shot of a spider web. I easily created a new design! Combining my  illustration with my photography, it gives me one more tool I can experiment with. When it works, it's quite unique. This makes for a nice wedding suite to add to my FANTASY WEDDING theme.

CREATIVE PROCESS

Only 10% of my sketches ever get to the finish state. This little fairy was just a quick doodle in one of my sketchbook. The full moon outside my window this week is too pretty not to paint it.

FLOWER FIARY VALENTINE

Spend part of my morning on this fantasy illustration. By adding some gold paint & hand glitter to this print, it makes for a lovely hand made valentine. Just posted it on ETSY, as a year-round valentine.

FLOWERFAIRY-work in progress

 Since my eyes max out at 2 hours, creating a new painting takes forever. It took me a long time to learn photoshop, but it  can really helps me to speed up a new design. The fairy wing is painted separately. It saves me time, cause I can paint it faster in a small scale. I can transform & scale this fairy wing, to see my options. I kind of like this purple version, I got this color  by clicking the COLOR BURN option. I still have alot of work with this new fairy. With the finish background, I have a better idea of how to finish the features on the fairy.

OLD ILLUSTRATION

"Jump, and you will find out how to unfold your wings as you fall." Came across this quote from Ray Bradbury, on this new FAIRY blog. Illustration is 30 years old, I just added new wings with the help of photoshop.

NEW PALETTE

Another find to keep me inspire. It's been a long time since I'm this excited about starting a new watercolor.  With this amazing set of irredescent watecolor palette, from Kremer Paints, I will be spending more time on my fantasy illustration.
