Painting Summer Morning

Making the most of a summer morning. Dreamy pink fog does not last that long. Watercolor is a fast way to express the ethereal mist softening the morning light.

To define the greenery in the foreground, I use pastel pencil on top of the watercolor.

BLACK RASBERRY

My studio is my artist statement… it's set up for ongoing projects. I'm focusing on my floor this morning. The black berry comes from my garden. Wild blackberries are very thorny, but totally delicious!

TYPICAL DAY

If there's such a thing, a typical Summer day usually starts in my garden. With teacup in my hand, I soak in the early morning light. I usually find something to put in my sketchbook.

IRIS, so distinctive … delightful to paint.

PRODUCTIVE MORNING

Staying focus is not my strong point. But with the help of technology, it can certainly speed up the whole process. Pretty cool to paint in my garden in the morning, scan the painting with a little PS edit, I have a new design! I upload it to Zazzle… I just created a new greeting card for my BIRTHDAY COLLECTION, all in a day's work.

6:30am, trying to catch the light before it changes. Still mild enough to be painting outside & breathing in the morning scent from my garden.

SUMMER POPPY

Poppy is so delicate & small. I love the iridescent quality of this tiny flower... beautiful variations of light & shadow. Which version do you prefer?

SUMMER NOCTURNE

Extreme warm backlighting causes objects in the foreground to appear flat, cool, & dark. My flower bushes in the foreground are completely hushed in cool shadow.

POPPY MORNING

There's always magic in the mountain, especially on these glorious summer mornings. Nothing more magical than visiting a lovely garden in the neighborhood. We really have to learn to  live the moment, cause summer is so short up here!

SUMMER BIRD

With the cooler days, hummingbirds &  other birds are gone from my garden. This might be the last time I see Robins in my garden till next spring.

HOLLYHOCK

Hollyhock remains one of my favorite summer flower, for growing & painting.
