Painted Ferns

Nature's abundant glories...from my garden to my studio. The tiny ferns call for some detail brushwork.
The wonder of it all!

CATSKILL MOUNTAIN SCENE

Another typical scene of the Catskill Mountain. Black & White nestled quietly among the green texture of trees & meadows.

I started off with a watercolor rendering. I needed to use a small watercolor brush to define the cow.

I then  highlighted the foliage with a few strokes of colorful pastel. Soft pastel over textured watercolor paper gives it that illusive quality of the light.

CADMIUM ORANGE SUNRISE

Another morning of trying to capture the light & atmosphere.

Seeing a lot of cadmium orange around the studio this week...

I think I can use the leftover paint for pumpkins too!

BOTANICAL STUDIES

Dreary day calls for some colors. Another short summer in the garden. This in-between season actually gives me more time to paint. It's nice to have the luxury to study every botanical for its own sake, without rushing out to water the garden!
