TIPS ON THE RIGHT ART SUPPLY

Sometimes, choosing the right paper is half the job. I love the way the grain of this paper is just right for indicating the misty & moody fall hues,

thru the use of graphite & pastel.

FALL HUES OUTSIDE MY STUDIO

Another morning of trying to capture the light & atmosphere. I want to emphasis the contrast between the yellow foliage against the dark silhouette of the meadow.

graphite sketch with dashes of pastel

Adding other colors would change the mood of the scene.

SUNFLOWER PATTERN

Sometimes, it's as simple as looking up in the sky to send me back into my studio.

BEHIND THE SCENE, revisiting some old ideas

A collection is never finish. Some late daisy from my garden, last week, inspire me to dig out some illustrations from my archive...

Revisiting & experimenting with icons & texture. Photoshop allows me to try out a few variations fairly quickly.

PLEIN AIR WITH PASTEL

Always searching for ways to express my reaction to nature's beauty. The best part of plein air painting is that I don't get caught up in details.

I like to use pastel to express a misty morning. I love the spontaneity of the medium. Pastel tends to evoke rather than inform.

I was not far from home, so I can easily clean up. I'm at a stage where I cant decide if I just want to play with pretty colors or experiment with some color combo to express the mood of a foggy morning...

with the fog burning off, it's a different scene!
